Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) supports Gas Safety Week 2025

As Gas Safety Week approaches, the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) joins forces with organisations nationwide to promote awareness of gas safety, highlighting the critical importance of annual checks and safe practices in the use of gas appliances.

Gas Safety Week 2025 runs from 8th to 14th September and aims to educate people about the potential hazards of poorly maintained or improperly installed gas appliances.  This year’s theme, “Looking after your home, friends, family”, emphasises everyone’s responsibility for ensuring safety across communities.

Stewart Clements, Director of HHIC, emphasises the significance of proactive gas safety measures.  “Gas Safety Week serves as a crucial reminder for all households and businesses to prioritise regular servicing of their gas appliances.  Annual safety checks by a Gas Safe registered engineer are essential to maintaining efficiency and safeguarding against potential risks.”

To ensure safety, HHIC encourages consumers to:

  • Schedule annual servicing of gas appliances with a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.
  • Verify the credentials of engineers through the Gas Safe Register before any gas work commences.
  • Recognise warning signs indicating faulty gas appliances, such as discoloured flames or unusual odours.
  • Install and regularly test CO alarms in homes and other premises where gas appliances are in use.

Gas Safe Register, the official register for gas engineers in the United Kingdom, provides comprehensive guidelines and resources to support these safety initiatives.
