Stewart Clements, Director of HHIC said “HHIC has long served the ‘contractor’ market but always within other member working groups. The formation of the Domestic Heat Strategy Group, chaired by DECC and to which HHIC are secretariat has seen the need for a separate working group to be formed. The new group will bring together large Contractor companies to provide a voice and direct opinion to Government and stakeholders on routes to market and consumers.
Installers hold a key position in the heating market, visiting UK homes and providing a trusted voice, making them well placed to help drive everything from take up of new technology through to providing advice on energy efficiency. We know that the Green Deal programme failed because it failed to engage with installers and so this new working group will enable the newly formed Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to talk directly to installers and give installers a direct line into the heart of policy making. This will be become more and more important as we untangle ourselves from the EU and as the Smart Meter roll out begins.”
